Established in 1985,
the AUSA Sounds of Freedom Military Band is a group of approximately 45 musicians who
donate their time and talents to present quality concerts with an
extremely broad audience appeal. Recognized
by the Congress of the United States of America, the band was recently awarded a special
congressional commendation
for its pride, pageantry, musicianship, and outstanding service to the
community.
The
band’s “Sounds of Freedom” repertoire includes orchestral
transcriptions, traditional band literature, show tunes, movie
soundtracks, and marches, as well as a wealth of popular and
contemporary music. The band
maintains an active performance schedule, presenting quarterly concerts
and appearing throughout the year before audiences of diverse
backgrounds.
Recent
special appearances include: The
Purple Heart Day Commemoration at the Legion of Valor Museum; Welcome
Home for the members of the 729th Transportation Company, USAR, from a
tour of duty in Operation Iraqi Freedom; Welcome Home for the return of
the 341st MP Co. of San Jose, CA from Baghdad, Welcome Home of the 140th AVIM “D” Company from Iraq; the
commemoration of the 9/11 Memorial in Clovis, CA; Opening and Closing
ceremonies for the National Veterans’ Golden Age Games held in Fresno,
CA, and Change of Command ceremonies for VFA-154 and VFA-41 at
NAS Lemoore.
The
AUSA Sounds of Freedom Military band, under the musical direction of Monte C.
Gmur, is a division of the Central California Chapter
of the Association of the United States Army.
The
band is available to support community
events; Veterans activities; and local RC ceremonies such as Changes of
Command, Retirements, Award Ceremonies, mobilizations/demobilizations;
and other special events.
